Left Candidates Assaulted, Camera Snatched, Phone Broken: Trinamool Goons Attack Opposition Rallies in Three Different Constituencies

Two Trinamool workers were reportedly arrested in Jaynagar.

The rallies of two Left-front and one BJP candidate were disrupted on Sunday, April 28 in three different constituencies across West Bengal. The victims have accused Trinamool of orchestrating the attacks.

As per a Anandabazaar Patrika report, Jaynagar Left-front candidate Subhash Nashkar’s rally was disrupted in Gosaba. He was rallying on a party worker’s motorbike while Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) worker Pikai Debnath was clicking his pictures. They alleged that around 30 Trinamool workers emerged from the local party office suddenly and disrupted their campaign and beat up Debnath and even snatched his camera, as per reports.

Another RSP worker Aditya Joyardar was also assaulted when he tried to film the attack and his mobile phone was reportedly broken. As per reports, Nashkar was also manhandled. Police reportedly arrested local Trinamool workers Mukul Mondal and Sanat Halder for the attack.

Nashkar told Anandabazaar Patrika, “They are stopping the rallies to silence the Opposition. They are even assaulting a senior leader like me.”

Arambagh constituency

CPI(M) Arambagh Lok Sabha candidate Sakti Mohan Malik was reportedly abused in Khanakul. Malik’s car was stopped and he was assaulted too. Unable to proceed, he had to return without continuing his campaign.

Malik told Anandabazaar Patrika, “Motorbikes bearing TMC flags stopped our way. They threatened us saying our rally can’t take place. I did not spot any police around. I have informed the election commission about the incident.”

Khanakul Trinamool leader Ashit Sinha Roy reportedly rejected the claims saying, “The party was not involved in the incident. As CPI(M) went to ask the villagers for their vote, the latter agitated.”

BJP Uluberia Lok Sabha candidate Joy Banerjee’s rally was reportedly attacked in Bagnan on Sunday evening. Two-three people suffered minor injuries when around 10 goons armed with sharp weapons attacked the rally.

Banerjee told Anandabazaar Patrika, “This is the work of goons supported by TMC. I was saved by my security team.”
