With Priyanka Gandhi’s Entry, SP-BSP Have Offered 14 U.P. Seats to Congress: Reports
For the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the SP-BSP had earlier announced to field candidates from 38 seats each.
Media reports suggest that Samajwadi Party(SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are reviewing their previous seat-sharing agreement in light of Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Uttar Pradesh politics ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
On January 12, the SP- BSP alliance had announced a 38-38 seat arrangement for the state with 80 Lok Sabha seats, without including the Congress party in the alliance.
News18 reported, citing sources, that the SP-BSP alliance has now offered as many as 14 seats to the Congress. This would leave the SP and the BSP with 32 seats each. However, there is no confirmation on whether the Congress party has accepted the offer. The News18 report states that the Congress is instead inclined towards putting up candidates on a solid 30 seats.
This change of mind has been propelled by Congress’ new, aggressive poll strategy in the state, reported News18.
At a time when there is a dearth of candidates who have the youth appeal, loyalists are reportedly considering the appointment of Jyotiraditya Scindia as the in-charge of western U.P. and handing over the reigns of eastern U.P., also known as Poorvanchal, to Priyanka Gandhi, a masterstroke from the Congress camp.
