Woman Lawyer Accuses BJP Leader Of Rape, Mental Torture
Family facing threats but police not taking action because I am a Dalit, claims ‘victim’.
Satish Sharma, an Uttar Pradesh BJP leader, has been accused of rape and mental torture by one of his lawyer colleagues. Sharma allegedly recorded an obscene video of the woman and, using it to blackmail her, raped and mentally tortured her for three years, the woman has alleged. The woman also said that she has lodged a police case but the authorities were refusing to take further action. She even shaved her hair at the press conference to express her desperation and threatened to commit suicide if no action was taken against Sharma.
“He (Satish Sharma) has already cut a major portion of my hair,” News18 quoted her as saying. “He is a big leader of the BJP and has all the political shielding. There’s nothing left. I am scared as he is threatening my family. I am being made to face this only because I am a Dalit.”
“I have complained to the Awadh Bar Association as well but nothing was done. A police complaint was filed at Ghazipur Police Station but they keep telling me different reasons every time. My family constantly gets murder threats and is offered money to settle the case,” the lawyer said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is already facing a lot of criticism for the terrible law and order situation in the state, especially in the aftermath of the Unnao rape case, involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
In the Unnao case, the rape survivor attempted to immolate herself in front of Adityanath’s office after her letters to investigate the case went unanswered for a year.
Sengar has denied the allegations and was not taken into custody until the Allahabad Court came down heavily on the police. He is in custody now and the case is with the Central Bureau of Investigation.
