Whole Thing Done To Win Upcoming State Elections: Former BJP Member Yashwant Sinha Condemns BJP Govt’s Move To Amend Article 370

Sinha likened the move to demonetisation, saying that too wasn't an economic decision, but a political one.

Former Finance Minister and ex Bharatiya Janata Party member Yashwant Sinha slammed the move to amend Article 370. Sinha, who has become a vocal critic of the saffron party and the Narendra Modi-regime said on an NDTV debate that what the Centre had done with Articles 370 and 35A was nothing more than “pure politics”.

He said that just they way demonetisation wasn’t an economic step, rather a political one, so too was the abrogation of Artice 370.

The former finance minister added, “It has nothing to do with Jammu and Kashmir. Because if it had, then the people of the state would have been taken into confidence.”

In fact, in the debate on “Centre’s Kashmir move: Game-changer or anti-democracy?” Sinha insinuated, “There are state elections coming in — some very important states — and this whole thing has been done in order to be able to win elections.

Earlier today, speaking to BloombergQuint, Sinha had said that the resolution to amend Article 370 was a “very unwise step to take at this point.”

He had further said, “This government, the Prime Minister, now supported by the home minister, they’re interested in creating history every day. They created history by demonetisation. We are seeing what the impact of demonetisation has been, adding, “They want to create history by abolishing Article 370 and 35(A) and now bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and converting both parts into union territories.”

Sinha had also said, “Isn’t it important for the country to win over the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the people of the valley? Why have they drifted away from India? Because of the actions we have taken without thinking, unwisely and unwittingly, this is the worst of that.”
