‘Modi and Shah Can Manage SC Judges’: BS Yeddyurappa, Three Others Booked Under Corruption Act
Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy had released audio tapes of the state BJP chief purportedly trying to lure JD(S) MLAs by offering them money.
An FIR was reportedly registered on Wednesday, February 13 at Raichur police station against BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa and three others under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for allegedly trying to lure JD(S) MLA Naganagouda Kandkur’s son Sharanagouda, promising him money and a ministry.
The Hindu reported that two BJP MLAs Shivanagouda Naik of Devadurga and Preetham Gowda of Hassan and adviser to Yeddyurappa M.B. Maramkal have also been named in the FIR. The three were present when Yeddyurappa met Sharanagouda allegedly asking him to convince his father to switch sides. Sharanagouda has alleged the accused also threatened him that they “would finish off the political life” of his father if he did not accept their offer. Based on this, the accused have also been booked under Section 506 of Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 120(B) of IPC for criminal conspiracy.
The tapes were released by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in a press conference hours before the presentation of the State budget. In one clip, Yeddyurappa allegedly says, “We are going to give Rs ten crores for now to each of 12 MLAs, and they will be made ministers. My son will pay,” and “We will book speaker also for Rs 50 crore. Maharashtra CM (Devendra) Fadnavis is involved.”
Kumaraswamy had said that during the purported conversation Yeddyurappa had also spoken about a “Rs 50 crore offer to book” the assembly speaker to give a ruling in favour of MLAs who might resign to help the BJP.
The former BJP chief minister also purportedly claimed that party president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can “manage Supreme Court judges”.
On Monday, Kumaraswamy had announced an SIT probe in the matter.
