All Govts Have Malnourished Farmers, But Modi Govt Has Transferred Farmers From General Ward to ICU: Yogendra Yadav (Watch)
“No government has been so anti-farmer in the last 70 years in India,” he said, as part of the video series Tathya.
“In the last seventy years no government has been farmer friendly. But no government has been so anti-farmer in the last 70 years in India,” said farmers’ rights activist, Yogendra Yadav.
Yadav spoke as part of the video series, Tathya, by Karwan-e-Mohabbat — a civil society initiative for peace and justice led by of activists, writers and journalists.
The Swaraj India founder said each party striving for political power has made promises in their manifestos and failed to deliver on them. “They promised to implement the recommendations of Swaminathan Report (2006) but failed to fulfil it.” Even BJP made excessive promises, he pointed out. “Our Prime Minister is known for his over the top claims. He claimed to double the income. Forget falling short of the claims made, the income of the farmer has remained just the same in the last five years.”
Pointing to the brazen anti-poor policies of the current political regime led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yadav said that not only did they not provide for the distressed farmers, policies like demonetisation propounded by this government have put them further in trouble from which they have not been able to recover until now.
“The problem of stray animals is their creation. Farmers are begging for help. Prices of raw materials have shot up. Be it fertilisers or diesel, everything has become expensive. To top it all there have been attempts to snatch farmers’ land from them,” he added.
In a poignant statement, Yadav adds that on being asked what the Modi government has done for the farmers, he has only thing to say – “I say, in the last seventy years all the governments have malnourished farmers leaving them on hospital beds. But the Modi government has transferred the farmer from the general ward to the ICU of hospitals. This is the achievement of Modi Government.”
