‘Don’t Grow Sugarcane. It Causes Diabetes,’ Yogi Adityanath Tells Farmers
Ironically, Adityanath was speaking at a programme in Baghpat, where sugarcane is the key crop.
After his non-sensical advice for dealing with Mathura’s monkey menace, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday gave another irrational counsel, this time to the state’s farmers. He said that farmers should not grow sugarcane as it causes diabetes.
“Excess production of sugarcane leads to excess consumption, which, in turn, causes sugar (diabetes),” said Adityanath.
Ironically, Adityanath was speaking at a programme in Baghpat, where sugarcane is the key crop, reported The Indian Express.
Notably, the Adityanath government had earlier admitted that as on August 20, nearly Rs 11,000 crore in dues are pending towards sugarcane farmers in the state.
Earlier this year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also lost two bypolls, one in the Kairana Lok Sabha constituency and the other in Noorpur assembly in western Uttar Pradesh, both of which are sugarcane cultivation hubs.
