Yogiji Spends 90% Of His Speeches In Kairana Talking About Riots: Jayant Chaudhary
It is sad to see that the BJP has mostly engaged in a negative campaign, RLD Vice President tells NewsCentral24x7 in an exclusive interview.
Of all the by-polls on May 28, Kairana’s parliamentary poll in UP is among the most watched. The by-poll has resulted in the opposition coming together with the BJP again in a corner. A wary BJP has unleashed all its top guns in the campaign. Bruised after its losses in the by-polls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to mount a formidable campaign. The Opposition candidate is contesting on the Rashtriya Lok Dal symbol.
Jayant Chaudhary, Vice President, Rashtriya Lok Dal, was in the news earlier today for giving a stinging reply to U.P. Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath. Adityanath reportedly said in a speech that a certain section of people had been compelled to go village to village with their hands folded to beg for votes. In response, Chaudhary said that Adityanath’s remarks smacked of arrogance and that Chaudhary had no shame in going village to village, speaking to his elders with folded hands and asking for votes with all humility.
In the middle of a busy campaign, he spoke to NewsCentral24x7 about the Kairana By-Poll and its significance for national politics leading into 2019 general elections.
NC24x7: How do you look at the Kairana By-Poll so far? Are you hopeful?
Jayant: We are very confident about our prospects. We have only campaigned for twelve days but with a solid plan. In this election we have not held any road shows etc, what we have done is we have gone village to village. In the last ten days, I have visited one hundred and forty-five villages and given speeches in each village. We have also been very active on social media.
NC24x7: And the BJP?
Jayant: It is sad to see that the BJP has mostly engaged in a negative campaign. Yogiji spends 90% of his speeches in talking about riots. A person and a party running a state and a country with a majority should have had more things to talk about, but they don’t.
NC24x7: What is the significance of the Kairana By-Poll going into the 2019 general elections?
Jayant: The significance can be gauged by the following things:
- 19 state ministers are campaigning in Kairana.
- The RSS has thrown all its resources in the campaign- Sunil Bansal is personally involved.
- Yogi Adityanath is giving speech after speech.
- The Mainstream Media is giving it significant coverage.
NC24x7: How is the opposition unity manifesting itself in Kairana?
Jayant: The cadres of various parties- AAP, CPI(M), Nishad Party, SP, BSP are working together in tandem and a sense of solidarity. NC24x7: Many say that this opposition unity is going to work in Modi’s favour. He will project it as a ‘him against the rest’ scenario. Memes are circulating around claiming that lions walk alone while many other animals roam in groups. What is your response to this?
Jayant: What kind of a leader takes pride in being left alone? In a country as diverse and vast as India- how is the fact that no one wants to work with you or be seen with you, a matter of pride? This really reeks of arrogance.
NC24x7: Will the opposition unity last across and after 2019?
Jayant: See, opposition unity is focused on (several parties in its own respective) regions. All the parties have a committed loyal voter base which is transferable. The Congress party is the fulcrum..(of this).
NC24x7: Thank you for taking time to talk to us.
