Your Concern and Anger Not Just Yours: Former IPS Officer Supports Naseeruddin Shah
The veteran actor had recently expressed his concerns on cows being prioritised over policemen in Uttar Pradesh.
While the Hindu-right has posed loud opposition to comments — about the recent episode of violence in Bulandshahr — made by Naseeruddin Shah, the veteran actor has found allies as well. Former IPS officer Dhruv Gupta expressed his support to Shah, saying: “Hum aapke saath hai. Aapki fikr aur gussa sirf aapka nahi, bakli hum sabhi samvedansheel bharaitiyo ki fikr aur gussa hai.” (We are with you. Your anger and worry are not yours alone. It is the worry and anger of all sensitive indians.)
Shah, while speaking to Karwan e Mohabbat, spoke about the December 3 violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr where clashes between the police and an angry Hindu mob led to vandalism and the death of two men, including an IPS officer. Shah had said, “The poison has already spread. It will be very difficult to capture this djinn back into the bottle. There is complete impunity for those who take the law into their own heads… The death of a cow has more significance than that of a police officer.”
Gupta, while offering support to Shah, also criticised the government, saying that in a country where innocent people are sent to jail and murderers get political protection, where young girls are burnt alive after rape Dalit folk are beaten up and innocent people are murdered in false encounters, anyone saying that they aren’t afraid is a liar.
